Illinois State Fair Grounds

Springfield, Illinois

Conservation World is a 30 acre section of the 366 acre Illinois State Fair Grounds and is a unique oasis complete with educational and entertainment venues for the entire family. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) through the Illinois Capital Development Board engaged CJP Architects to make the entire site accessible to those with disabilities.

As a part of the project, recycled crushed glass was used as filler in the concrete mix for the tent pads in lieu of non-recycled materials.

In addition, to the redesign of the pathway system to make it accessible on a site that has over a 40’-0” elevation change, CJP Architects envisioned a master plan to include a new entry, a Kids for Conservation area, and several amphitheaters.
